A native of Edinburgh now living in Orkney, Hugh Pyper is Emeritus Professor of Biblical Interpretation at the University of Sheffield and a former President of the Society for Old Testament Studies. In addition to his academic writing, he has translated poems by Fernando Pessoa, Gottfried Keller and others into Scots.
