She is the author of Shout, Sister, Shout!: The Untold Story of Rock-and-Roll Trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and Crossing the Line: Racial Passing in Twentieth-Century Literature and Culture, also published by Duke University Press. Chester Higgins is a photographer and author based in Brooklyn, New York. The author of several books, Higgins has presented his photography at dozens of solo exhibitions throughout the world.
