Son of late legendary writer Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay of 'Pather Panchali' fame, Taradas Bandyopadhyay had his schooling at the Ramakrishna Mission School, Rahara. Graduating from Maulana Azad College with Honours in English, he went on to do his post - graduation from the Calcutta University.He joined service with the West Bengal government and rose to the position of director in the Information and Cultural Affairs department, from where he took voluntary retirement. Despite his failing health, Bandyopadhyay found time to associate with cultural and social organisations and remained the honorary vice-president of the Indian Forum of Art and Culture. Taradas leaves behind a large number of short stories and two famous novels - তারানাথ তান্ত্রিক and কাজল. 'কাজল' was a sequel to 'Aparajito' written by his father. Taradas is survived by his wife and two sons.
