The Western History Association (WHA) is a non-profit organization, was founded in 1961 at Santa Fe, New Mexico by Ray Allen Billington. Included in the field of study are the American West and western Canada.
From 2012–2017, The Western History Association was headquartered at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In 2018 it was hosted at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In 2020, it relocated to the Department of History at the University of Kansas.
The Association's periodical, The Western Historical Quarterly, began publishing in 1964 at the University of Utah Press.
