
Sir Thomas Wemyss Reid (1842–1905) was an English novelist, newspaper editor, and biographer. He worked for the Newcastle Journal and the Leeds Mercury becoming editor of the Mercury in 1870. During his editorship he transformed the paper into one of the most important regional newspapers of the age and won the right for the provincial press regional to be admitted to the House of Commons press gallery.
As a writer, Reid specialised in biographies including books on contemporary Liberal politicians W.E. Forster, Richard Monckton Milnes and Lyon Playfair and the writers Charlotte Brontë and William Black. He also wrote several popular novels.
He was the brother of Stuart J. Reid.
