Professor N. Alexandridis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece and graduated from Anatolia College in 1962. He carried out all his University studies in the U.S. where he received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University (with “Summa Cum Laude” and with “Honors in Engineering”) and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After working for a while in the U.S. he was elected Professor of the first Chair of “Computer Science” established in Greece at the School of Engineering at the University of Patras where he served for 5 years.

After that he was elected Professor of
“Digital Systems and Computers” at the National Technical University of Athens where he served for 5 more years. He has also taught as Professor at George Washington University, UCLA and Ohio University. From August 2005 to August 2009 he was
the Chairman of the Greek Telecommunications and
Post Commission (EETT). During his 4-year term,
the Regulator EETT –by transposing and applying effectively the European Law -- (a) established broadband in Greece (by forcing the incumbent OTE to open up its Exchange Centers to the collocation of the alternative operators and the unbundling of the local loop) and (b) secured effective competition among all telecoms operators (which forced them, from resellers of OTE services, to start competing on a more equal basis through “infrastructure based competition”).

Other accomplishmentsof his 4-year term included: the unbundling of the local loop, the significant increase in telecoms completion, the major increase in broadband penetration, the dramatic reduction in prices, drastic increases in Internet access speeds, the freeing of the 2.5 GHz frequency band to allow setting up Wi-Fi Hotspots, the introduction of 3G wireless networks that made mobile broadband affordable, etc.

He has a long technological know-how experience in industrial and governmental consulting, both in Greece and abroad, in the areas of telecoms policy development, regulatory framework implementations, and strategic analysis and planning. He was Greece’s scientific representative in the European research program ESPRIT and was one of the first Professors in the governing board of the Greek Naval Research Center (GETEN) for 5 years.

He has a long publications record (which includes 12 textbooks and a number of journal and
conference publications), and he participated in chairing and organizing various international
conferences and symposia. He was also part of the first team that formed the Greek Computer Society EPY (which now numbers thousands of members) and was its first President. Finally, he is a member of a number of international honor societies, he is listed in a large number of Who’s Who in the world, and he has received a number of honors and awards.
