Growing up in an Italian home (more specifically a Sicilian one) cooking and eating was one of those things that we enjoyed doing the most!
Sitting around the table and chatting about anything and everything are moments I will always treasure!
The house was always full and baking and cooking was a part of our daily life.
When I was diagnosed with celiac disease, I felt like a big part of my life changed, however I was determined to stay healthy but at the same time eat deliciously well as I had done all my life. I considered it a minor and temporary setback.
I decided to write this book because of my own experience, but more importantly, with the hope that it could help anyone who is newly diagnosed with celiac disease get a jump start on their new gluten-free life.
In my book, Going Against The Grain – Italian Style! I share my story, provide helpful answers to many questions and share some of my favorite recipes I grew up with now modified to fit with my new dietary restrictions. Some are Italian, some typical of the Sicilian culture but one thing is for sure, they are all delicious! You will find a nice mix of basic, traditional recipes and some that are not so basic but not complex either. I hope to cater to the beginner chef as well as the one who knows his/her way around a kitchen.
I was honored to have the foreword provided by Dr. Peter Green, Director Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University.
I am in the middle of putting together a second book, estimated to publish at the end of 2015 and will prove to be a valuable resource for those entertaining guests with gluten and dairy intolerances.
I hope you enjoy my book as much as I enjoyed putting it together!
