"Daughters and Sons" is a story of young patriotic Chinese fighting a guerrilla war during the War of Resistance Against Japan (1937-45). Led by the Chinese Communist Party and following the Party's policy of uniting people of all strata in an anti-Japanese united front, they fought tenaciously for eight years behind enemy lines in north China, while the Koumintang forces were collapsing. Integrating themselves with the masses, they organized them and helped them set up people's political power. They opened new battlefields, built up strength, overcame tremendous difficulties and played an important part in defeating Japanese imperialism. The author Yuan Ching lived in the liberated area for many years and directly took part in the resistance. Familiar with the country life and people, he was able to describe the characters and events vividly and realistically. "Daughters and Sons" was originally published in 1958 in the People's Republic of China.
