Excerpt from the The National Historical Institute is pleased to put in book form the data on Manila's street names that have been on many notecards in the Research and Publications Division for some years now. Basically a slim compilation of brief historical information on various streets found in old and new Manila arranged alphabetically--this was a data bank utilized to evaluate requests for the changing of street names in the capital. In recent years, many of the street have been renamed, often at whim, without regard to street names as signposts to history. It is in this way that the Institute wishes to inform citizens of street names that have been sanctified by usage and yet discarded, never realizing that these old names, in one way or the other, reaffirmed and enhance our culture.
