Those who know Mrs. Lister’s earlier books in the “Round” series will be quite at home with her latest from the outset. For in it they will meet their old friends of “The Little Round Garden”—Fairy Gardener, Merle and Blueboy, and all the others.

The story, however, moves a long way from the garden, centering round Piettra, a child dancer, who lives with a gipsy family. Children will be fascinated with Piettra’s life in the circus, with chimney home, and with her search for a solution to a mystery which haunts her dreams.

Side by side with the main theme come the voices from the garden, Merle and Blueboy have grown older—“No more fairies for them,” says Fairy Gardener, shaking his head. But magic returns to the garden in a somewhat surprising and delightful way.

Mrs. Lister, with her colorful gift of imagination, which sets her apart from the average writer of children’s stories, has combined reality and magic in her latest book to weave a tale to keep all young ones entranced, and quite a few olde ones, too.
