More Details
Renga is a Japanese poetic tradition in which each stanza is created by one haiku and one waki. Editor Major Jackson contacted hundred of poets in the waning days of the Obama presidency to invite them to "create a chain of imaginative reflection on the legacy of America's first black president" (vii). The collection pairs two poets for each stanza and invites a productive tension. The contributors include storied American poets, as well as up and coming poets. As a whole, it models a form of democratic conversation and offers up a "thank you" to the man who prompted such.
