the war on a book is an article which explores Australia’s “History Wars” from the inside. In 2005 an Australian historian, Michael Connor, published a book called The Invention of Terra Nullius.
At the time Australian history, and law, was based on something called terra nullius. It was a term which everybody used and nobody understood. After the book was published academic historians and lawyers launched an attack on the book.
12 months after publication Connor wrote this account of what happened. Despite the attacks, today the term has almost disappeared but the history profession has never acknowledged the political corruption that drove them to establish the history of a nation on a falsehood (Article 9,500 Words).
