More Details
The author, an American collector, visited Gad's Hill Place, formerly Dickens' home and later a girl's school, to inspect the residue of Dickens' home and library. The residue of the library consisted of a series of false book backs, ordered by Dickens himself with exact descriptions of the many witty and fake book titles from a Mr. Eeles, and fitted to hide a door, which had interrupted his line of bookcases, with a false bookcase housing the false book backs. The author gives a complete list of the humorous book titles that still remained, provided to him by the Head Mistress of the school at Gad's Hill.
