The rock music landscape has changed dramatically since Guns N' Roses released the toweringly extravagant "Use Your Illusion" in September, 1991. Blockbuster albums barely exist any more and Axl Rose, of course, has been teetering on the brink of "Chinese Democracy" for years. Here, Eric Weisbard looks back to a time when rock was bigger and brasher, and when a man with access to the amplifier of the gods sat at his piano and tried to make beautiful music.
