This is the second book I produced about Robert E. Harrill. It has all the information as the final book "The Last Battle for Independence; The Story of the Fort Fisher Hermit". but in slightly different format. It even has a few pages of information I left out of the other book, which is now out of print. The best part is that some of the photographs are in color (if you have a color book-reader)!
Robert Harrill grew up in the foothills of North Carolina in the early 1900's. He failed at everything he tried, including family life. At age 62, he "started over" and reconnected with Nature. Gradually, he was discovered living near an old civil war fort. As the years went by, for some reason, the US Army, the US Air Force, and wealthy local landowners wanted him off the property. The State of NC even had a "Hermit Erradication" file. Robert eventually became the second largest tourist attraction on the NC coast, attracting over 17,000 "guests" a year.
