More Details
The year 2011 marked the 70th founding anniversary of the Philippine National Historical Society, the oldest historical society in the Philippines, established on February 2, 1941. Coincidentally, it is also the 150th anniversary of the birth of National Hero Jose Rizal. This volume is the commemorative issue of the Journal of History celebrating Rizal's sesquicentennial birth anniversary. In 1961, for the centennial commemoration of the hero's birth, a similar commemorative volume was published by the Journal of History, the official publication of the Philippine National Historical Society. In this 2011 volume are selected Rizal articles published from the first issue of the Journal in July 1941 and in subsequent volumes. The objective is to provide to present-day readers the opportunity to revisit these aticles which may have slipped through the cracks of the history memory on Rizal. Reading and re-reading Rizal's life and works will always yield new insights into the man and his works, as they also provide updated perspectives on the history of the Philippines and the Filipinos.
