The Glare is where dreams come true. It’s where I’ve always dreamed of going to become a dancer. That’s all I’ve ever wanted; to just dance.

And the fact that I’m now not allowed because of things out of my control really pisses me off.

You see, I grew up as a human. In a little deprecating town living off rations and shared water. I grew up learning how to survive in a world infested with war.

I thought I knew how to survive.

I was taught to hate and fear all those above us, because we were bottom of the ladder and that’s just how it was. But above all, I was taught to loathe the worst of them all; the fanged ones. The bloodsuckers. They run the Glare. They are top of the ladder. Still, I had hoped that one day I’d get to go to the big city and make my dreams come true.

But when secrets and lies I’ve been fed all my life came to the surface, I watched as everything I knew and understood came crumbling down around me. And dreams were smashed to pieces. All I want to do is dance.

But instead, my brother and some bloodsuckers swooped in and took me on the run – to protect me. That’s what they said. That’s what he promised.

F*cking Kingston. Messing with my head and heart. He dared to defy his own kind when making promises to keep me safe.
