Han Suyin means The Chinese Gamble. It was written with aid of another person (an unnamed American missionary, employed as a woman doctor in the same Chengtu hospital). 'Han Suyin' is the pen name of Peking-born Eurasian Dr. Elisabeth Comber. She is an author of several books on modern China, novels set in East Asia, and autobiographical works, as well as a physician.
