More Details

Trevor Joyce was born in Dublin in 1947. He now lives in Cork, where he is employed as a business analyst and technical writer for Apple Computer. From the appearance of his first book, Sole Glum Trek, in 1967, Trevor Joyce's work has been appreciated by discerning critics as endlessly intriguing in subject matter and astonishingly innovative in technique. It breaks from the established norms of Irish poetry, and strikes out in exciting explorations of the possibilities of language and consciousness. In the eighteen years since his last volume, Trevor Joyce has lectured on Chinese poetry and poetics, and more recently has worked to incorporate forms and techniques from Japanese and other traditions. These experiments reveal themselves in the wide variety of form, mood, and approach which distinguishes the poems in this volume. Stone Floods makes demands on the reader; but any effort to respond to these demands brings rich rewards. Not since Beckett and Devlin has an Irish poet demonstrated such dazzling mastery of language.
