The poetry collection is inspired by a a three-week sojourn throughout Jordan near the beginning of the Gulf War. Coincidentally, then U.S. President George W. Bush went to the country in his bid to win support from Arab nations for the war. We were not in the same party, but he and I stayed at the same hotel at the same time in Amman, the capital city. Later, we happened to lodge again at the same time in Acaba, where a summit was held with Arab leaders.
This book reflects on others’ impressions of me and my perceptions of people from Jordan and other parts of the Middle East. Some critics might see the poems in this collection as politically partisan, because it is part of the publisher's Poets for Peace Series. Don't judge a book by its cover - to breathe is political. My intent is to share an appreciation for the beauty and cultural complexity discovered in an ancient and mystical land.
